In spite of it being a Children’s book, I enjoyed Charlottes Web very much. Being for children, this book is an easy read and the pictures are a very cute addition to this enthralling story.
I couldn’t lay it down before I knew if little spring pig Wilbur who is fainting at every opportunity is going to be saved after Fern takes care of him or if he ends up as a piece of bacon on the plate of a farmer. I felt with him when he burst into tears because he thinks he is going to be butchered. I was happy when his fate is postponed and I laughed a lot when he tries to act like “some pig” or practiced being “terrific” by doing “back flips with half a twist”. And I also nearly shed some tears when Charlotte the spider, humble anti-hero, best friend and saviour of Wilbur passes away.
I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to read a book about friendship, growing up, farm life of the 1950ies or how a fate can be changed by even the smallest creature. And even if you not interested in the topics above, you sure will have your fun reading the charming story of Charlotte’s Web.
